What taxes come out of my paycheck?
Federal income tax (progressive brackets), Social Security (6.2% up to $176,100 in 2025), Medicare (1.45%, plus 0.9% above $200K), and state income tax if applicable. Some states also have local taxes.
What states have no income tax?
Alaska, Florida, Nevada, New Hampshire (dividends/interest only), South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming have no state income tax. Set the state rate to 0% for these states.
Does this include 401(k) contributions?
No. Pre-tax retirement contributions reduce your taxable income. If you contribute to a 401(k), subtract that amount from your gross salary before entering it here for a more accurate estimate.
